A fruit is ripened ovary enclosing seeds. A large number of fruits are popularly called vegetables. Popularly, the term fruit is used for matured ovaries which have fragrant aromatic flavor and are either naturally sweet or are sweetened with sugar before eating.
Fruit are juicy (96% water content). These are inferior in food value but banana and dates are rich source of energy, giving carbohydrates. Majority of cultivated fruits belonging to two families: Rutaceae followed by Rosaceae.
